“While multiple interventions are optimal to reduce the burden of CDI, it is believed that this study demonstrates that, in settings where cephalosporins are not widely used, effective cleaning and rapid isolation are the cornerstones of effective management and prevention of CDI, and have clearly been shown to work in practice.”

Background
Hospital-acquired C.difficile is one of the biggest concerns in healthcare settings. Effective infection control interventions can be difficult to monitor.
Method
The infection control data from two hospitals in England was used for statistical breakpoint analysis.
Result
While a variety of interventions are needed to control C.diff, deep cleaning incorporating HPV decontamination is most effective in reducing CDI rates.
