Reprocessing of PPE Garments for re-use by clinical staff – Vaporised Hydrogen Peroxide method
Background
Within the context of PPE shortages during the coronavirus pandemic, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust tested the feasibility of reprocessing used garments.
Method
Inivos’ process of vaporised hydrogen peroxide (VHP) was applied to laundered garments, to test its effectiveness in decontaminating single-use PPE items for re-use.
Result
The process achieved satisfactory standards of disinfection, using organisms considered, on current data, to be worst-case surrogates for SARS-CoV-2
