Earlier this month we met our IT Supervisor, Greg Claridge. As part of a new series we are giving you the chance to meet the people behind our products, the people that answer the phone when you call us, the people that make Inivos the experts in infection prevention and control. This week we meet our Social Media Expert, Wendy Ford.
What does a typical day look like for you?
After catching up with the marketing team, I log into all the social media channels to perform some social listening and I monitor our paid campaigns, pulling any necessary reports and optimising. Majority of my day is developing each brand’s social media plan, writing and creating copy for each brand’s social media platforms and then either live posting it or scheduling the content in advance.
What is something only a few people know about you?
I am pretty proud of cycling from Peterborough to Amsterdam in two days for the charity Free Kicks Foundation, but I guess only a few people know that Channel 4’s Jon Snow recorded a video to wish me a happy wedding day! My amazing husband got a load of my favourite celebrities to record a message wishing us a happy wedding day. He gave me the video on the morning of our wedding.
No way, that’s amazing! Can we see?
Sure, it’s on YouTube! https://youtu.be/iiEtbf_mFls?t=523
How did you get into your area of work?
When I was at Western Washington University, I had the opportunity to take PR and media classes and these inspired my love for marketing. When I returned to the UK to finish my degree, I started working at a youth marketing agency and it gave me the platform to explore all aspects of marketing as well as start using social media for clients.
My expertise in social media and PR has grown together through various jobs and now they go hand-in-hand, which is pretty lucky since along with events they are my favourite areas!
What is it about your industry that inspires you?
It keeps you on your toes! I love curating content that matters, and I am a bit of an analytical geek so seeing how our community engages with the content and optimising this content always motivates me to work hard.
Imagine there are now 25 hours in a day, what would you do with that extra hour?
I would probably go down an Instagram reels or TikTok wormhole! Work wise, it would give me time to evaluate my content but personally, I would use that hour to play with my two little girls.
What do you enjoy most about working at Inivos?
The variety and the freedom to get stuck in and make it happen. Being at the ‘coal face’ of social is very important to me and to have that trust and ability to get on with what I do and collaborate with the team is awesome.
What are your interests outside of work?
My family and friends. I have two daughters so outside of work they are everything, especially as they seem to have a better social life than me half the time! I love to get outdoors and travel, I try to go to as many festivals, shows and events as possible as well as spend time with my friends and family.
From your time here at Inivos, tell me about a work achievement you are most proud of.
Tripling Inivos’ monthly impressions and engagement within the first 3 months of starting work here!
What advice do you have for someone just starting out in your area of work?
Simon Sinek’s ‘Golden Circle’ has always been a key learning for me and with that strategy in your head, hone your copywriting and storytelling skills. Being able to authentically write and share your brand message will always underpin whatever you post on whichever platform you work with.
Thanks for your time, Wendy!
We hope you enjoyed meeting Wendy, keep an eye out for the next post in our series when we will be meeting Robert Coward, our Head Technician.
